Geopolitical Focus – February 2023
Although reports on the Ukraine-Russia proxy war in the US have subsided and balloons are flying too high to be identified, one might wonder if Mr. Biden's physical state is hiding more than just a bit of arthritis. Annalena Baerbock, the German counterpart of Blinken, returned from a trip to Finland and was enthusiastic about Finland's nuclear bunkers, which are capable of housing the entire population underground in case of a nuclear attack. She was so impressed that she plans to ask the German government, who can actually protect about 10% (the elites), to follow suit. This is surprising, coming from a member of the Green Party and a peace-loving activist who studied politics and international understanding. She is also among the biggest war-mongers in Germany, according to information from Wikipedia.
As a child, Baerbock grew up with her two sisters and two cousins and joined her parents at anti-war and anti-nuclear power protests organized or supported by the Green Party. She attended the Humboldt School in Hanover and spent an exchange year at Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, Florida, at the age of 16.
It is ironic that two generations after the Russian Army spent 25 million lives to destroy the Third Reich on the East Front, the German never-again-war activists are the loudest in supporting Ukraine, in a world where they have failed greatly to negotiate (the Minsk Treaty). Perhaps they still feel bad that they lost to Russia and are happy that Zelinski is carrying out the duty to restore the feel-good story. There are actually democracies in Europe, such as Hungary, which is called a dictatorship by the EU, but they consulted with the population to decide whether they should actively engage in the war. They decided not to. It remains to be seen if Mr. Biden will sanction them, as he has done with Switzerland, coercing a neutral country to deliver weapons. It is worth noting that the Green and Socialist parties are all in, and solidarity is in their blood. That the socialist members actually favor Russia as an ideological ally can wait.
The Munich Security Conference opened with a video conference from President Zelinski, predicting victory over "Goliath" Russia to save Western civilization. However, at home, he censors the press, removes opponents, and the British accuse him of firing ammunition into no man's land, thus wasting resources while always demanding more weapons. While Zelinski claims the war has killed 200,000 soldiers, the British say Russia lost 50,000, which would leave 150,000 Ukrainian dead. But according to Western news, only Russians die. The Munich Security Conference does not include Russia but rather a set of war-oriented interests waiting for Russia to fall so they can prey on the resources. They have all forgotten about Napoleon and Hitler and are repeating what led to WWI, where everyone talked about war and no one about peace. Meanwhile, Mr. Stoltenberg, the NATO commander, stated that the war started in 2014 when Russia entered Crimea, but he said nothing about the Maidan coup, which really started the confrontation under the guidance of the CIA.
The next escalation point is that Europe and the US are ramping up the production of ammunition and preparing for the delivery of fighter jets. Russia has 3,800 aircraft, with 1,500 fighter jets, so the economy will likely recover with solar panels and wind power. However, until the multi-trillion-dollar investment package impacts the economy, war will likely do it to avoid a global recession. This administration is trigger-happy against everyone except China, which is at least worth considering given Hunter and the rest of the family's potential influence on the conflict with Ukraine and the soft gloves on China.
Where will this all lead? Will the US lead Europe to split up Russia into smaller countries, allowing for greater access to its resources? Will a new EU and EEU, led by Zelinski, emerge to counter China? This seems like a long way off. After all, South America has more strategic resources for an electric world. Russia may have gas, oil, and coal, but it lacks lithium.
